Re: large files and converting as mp3
Thanks for that steve Yes I have 64 bit vista, Plenty of ram too. The only reason I have such large files is because I occasionally leave audacity running overnight recording. That leaves me with about 16GB of aup/au files *gulp....so I tried what was suggested here and saving as WAV to lower the fi...

Re: large files and converting as mp3
I've now started saving as WAV, but I'm a little concerned at reading the following from the audacity help files: "People working with multichannel audio at very high quality settings, or with very long recordings, should note that the maximum size of a wav file is 2GB" Does anyone know the reason w...

Re: large files and converting as mp3
Just to answer my own question, a small section of audio I recorded last night was saved as wav, and was 630MB in size.
I also saved the original audacity files, just to compare, which were 1.25GB
Thanks for the help, Irish, much appreciated.

Re: large files and converting as mp3
Cheers for that, Irish. I'd only ever saved twice as mp3, plus only on the odd occasion and with this sound card they always sounded bright and descent. Using wav will be more convenient as it leaves just one file, does it also create a smaller file size than saving as aup and its associating folder...

large files and converting as mp3
Hi, Hope this is the right section of the forum for this. I just wanted a bit of advice on saving large files and converting as mp3. If I save the files as aup and its associating folder, it's obviously a much larger file size than saving as mp3. So I just wanted to know if saving a long audio piece...

Re: Where has wave option gone in Audacity using Vista 64
Thanks for the detailed explanation, very useful. So is it creative's vista 64 drivers for the x-fi that are causing wave not to be visible? I don't have a wave option in recording devices or playback devices. Or doesn't vista use wave as an option? With vista when I record with what u hear set as d...

Re: Where has wave option gone in Audacity using Vista 64
Ah, that explains the greyed-out input selector. So is the fact there's no wave option in the Audio I/O tab solely down to the X-fi drivers? With XP there was a wave option, but what u hear seems to do what I want. When I had the X-fi installed on XP it had wave and what u hear, so what's the differ...

Where has wave option gone in Audacity using Vista 64
Just installed Audacity on Vista 64x. In the drop down box next to the playback and record level sliders there are no options for setting what to record from. Was wondering if this is to do with Vista or me being dumb and not knowing how to find it. With XP I could choose wave in the drop down box a...

ID3 tag editor's default genre setting?
Hi,
Is it possible to change the genre default setting in Audacity's ID3 tag editor? On my version (1.2.6) it defaults to 'blues' every time.
Cheers,
Mal
