Thanks, waxcylinder. Unfortunately hitting the delete key does nothing, and the "delete" in Edit/Delete is grayed out like the "cut" and "paste. Maybe I should uninstall and reinstall the whole program!

Thanks for the reply, but yes, the selected area is dark, just as it should be, and yet the Edit/Cut is grayed out.

I had a similar problem and traced it to a loose connection in the phono cartridge. Have you checked that there is output from the turntable on both channels by unplugging the outputs one at a time?

I have just downloaded Audacity and transferred my first LP. Following the "Editing for Beginners" tutorial I am trying to cut unwanted sections of the track. I can select the sections OK, but "cut" on the Edit Menu is grayed out and inoperative. Have I overlooked something?
