thanks for the post stevethefiddle. I think you are right on. looking back over all the trouble shooting i've done, I'm thinking the issue is with the mic. It's the only thing that has not been ruled out so... Can anyone suggest a decent cheap mic to record with that i can go pick up? Before contact...

Quick question... I was trying to convert two of my .aup files to .mp3 this morning but when i open them in Audacity, no audio shows up. Koz - As for the virus scan, this PC was just rebuilt before i began to use it for recording. Just to cover all base's, I will initiate a virus scan as well as run an adware scan today.

No other USB devices connect to my laptop other then the mic.
