Thanks for the idea -- just tried it (and various other quality settings) and no difference.

I have tried 1.3.10, 1.2.6, and even 1.3.7 just to cover all the bases. The problem persisted the same with each. My sound card IS integrated, but I'm not sure why that would be a problem when Window's sound recorder records beautifully. Maybe I'll try other recorders and get a better comparison.

Popping NOT due to clipping
The Built-in windows (vista) sound recorder records music and voice just fine (with USB mic), but audacity creates a slight popping sound consistently any time a sound is recorded -- that is, it records properly, but adds in a popping background noise, NOT due to pronunciation factors, and apparentl...
