Re: M4A file unsupported despite newest Audacity and FFmpeg versions

I've been following instructions to the letter Which instructions? Which version of Audacity? YOUR INSTRUCTIONS AREN'T WORKING The Audacity documentation was written by volunteers from the Audacity community. If you're not happy with it, then perhaps you could help to improve it. I can't seem to fi...

It can get up to 0 db. But the recording quality becomes terrible
That indicates that the problem is occurring before the audio reaches Audacity.

The problem may be related to this: https://youtu.be/jqBGOije7l0?t=138

Re: Auto Duck misses sections on a 60 minute audio file

A workaround:

Temporarily amplify the control track by, say +30 dB (you will need to enable the option "Allow clipping"), and set the threshold in Autoduck to -20 dB instead of -50 dB. After applying Autoduck, amplify the control track by -30 dB to take it back down to normal level.

Re: Auto Duck misses sections on a 60 minute audio file

Thanks for the added detail. I can see something peculiar, and also discovered a couple of "features" that I wasn't aware of. "Features" 1. The amplitude measurement is NOT a peak level measurement. It looks to me to be a "kind of" average square measurement based on a ...

Re: 32 bit float or 16 bit PCM

it is better to digitize at 32 bit float and then export/save the file WAV 16 bit PCM; Yes. I chose the sampling rate of 44100 Hz because it is more than enough since they are recordings of conference (voices of people) 44100 is also compatible with just about everything, so it's generally a good c...

Even if I increase the slider, the mic input gets louder and distorted.
If you move the slider up, how high will the level go? Can you get it to go up to 0 dB? (Don't play the recording - it will be very loud and horrible - I'm just interested in how high it will go).

It would be much easier for us to see what you are doing if your screenshots showed the waveforms rather than the spectrograms.

Yea so it's still taking unacceptably long.
If you can just open it once, and then export as WAV, then you can try jademan's suggestion.
