Stevethefiddle, re-checking that box seems to have done the trick. I had indeed unchecked that boxin the Windows 7 installation. It's still odd though, one should still be able to close the program my clickng the red X or selecting exit from the file menu.

Can't close Audacity, it keeps reloading
It seems to behave okay on my XP partition, but when running Windows 7, though it seems to otherwise run okay, when I close the program, it reloads by itself immediately, even when closing it with the task manager. Only a reboot will get rid of it. I've already tried re-downloading and re-installing...
