Is it possible that it might be an IRQ conflict? Just reading off of the M-Audio site.

Loud Crackling
This is my first attempt at using Audacity and using my M-Audio MobilePre USB. I am monitoring through the headphone out of the MobilePre. Whenever I am playing back a track or even recording a track, I get a very loud crackling noise that is not present in the moniter when Audacity is not performin...
