Do you make a stereo track with the original on the left and the delayed on the right? Or do you leave them both mono and pan them individually?
If you are DTing more than one instrument, do you need to balance and put the delayed track on the right for some and the left for others?

Giving Stereo Depth to Mono Tracks
My vocals are recorded in mono, but I heard about a technique to give them (or any other mono track) some depth and a stereo-like effect. There are several ways to do it, but basically you duplicate the mono track and apply about 2-hundredths second delay to it. You can use the delay effect or the T...

Re: Mixing Tutorial - General Methods
Any chance you could post those tracks somewhere (like MySpace)? I have to do some legal stuff to release my full-band recordings, but my solo stuff is at http://www.myspace.com/stationarydave The first song on the list is a live recording, but the others are new at-home Audacity projects. None hav...

Re: Mixing Tutorial - General Methods
Based on this conversation, I've mixed a couple of projects in the last few days and they didn't sound awful. One was a loud punk-type number and the other was a quieter acoustic number. I applied this general method: 1. Record each track with with adequate levels that, most importantly, never peak....

Try to cut down the MP3 export bit rate. Go to Edit, Preferences and click the File Formats tab. Under MP3 Export Setup, change the Bit Rate selection to a smaller number. The smallter the number, the lower the quality and the smaller the file.

Re: Record Internal Music
Have you tried changing the selection in the Mixer Toolbar at upper right? On my computer, if you select "Stereo Mix" that will record what your sound card is putting out. Note that I've experienced a fair amount of noise or hiss when trying this. Maybe you'll have better luck. You'd think it would ...

Re: Mixing Tutorial - General Methods
Interesting info! I think the noise floor on my old Teac PortaStudio must have been about -2db! (In other words, enough noise to make it a piece of junk!) I am very happy with my M-Audio Fast Track Pro. I can lay track after track and there's none of that hiss you have with tape. I read a review (ht...

Re: Mixing Tutorial - General Methods
alatham, great tips on cutting the EQ before reverb and copying the track, applying reverb, then gradually adding the reverb track to the mix. This is why I started this thread--I would have never thought of that.

Re: Mixing Tutorial - General Methods
Thanks, alatham! I don't at all mind your disagreeing, because I admit I don't know much and I'm trying to get some guidance. An update after reading alatham's comments: I like these steps better because they utilize raw tracks with no processing wherever possible! 1. Record clean tracks at as high ...
