For anyone else who may be looking for the answer to this question, I wanted to share here what I discovered. You can go into preferences, under "mp3 export" and change 128 to 24 to reduce the file size ... it brought it back to around 7 megs. Yahoo!

I opened up a 7mb (45 minute) mp3 in Audacity and the only thing I did was to delete 7 seconds from the beginning. When I exported the mp3, now it's HUGE - 37 mb. Eeek!
