I will probably end up using either Audacity or Cubase. I have to produce 30 or so demo videos for a software product using Camtasia (screen recorder). You must EXPORT audio files from Audacity (WAV, or any other supported audio format). I tried this but had problems exporting back to the original wav file. Perhaps this is because it was open and presumably locked by Audacity? I wonder if there is a way to automate the process of loading a WAV fil...

Bye bye Audacity. I thought it could be used as a simple WAV editor. I could have sworn I used to be able to double-click a WAV file, edit it and then save it back to disc. I must be confusing it with an old copy of Sound Forge. My Cubase and Reaper are overkill for what I want to do. So apparently ...
