What I forgot to add is that I cut and pasted back to the original one track after adjusting the volumes. Should I have saved as two track?

Ok, I tried this but without success: added a new track, cut one selection and pasted it to the new track. Used slide control until both sounded about the same volume but I'm not sure if I saved it correctly. In any event it didn't seem to make any difference as they still have different volume leve...

adjust volume so both sounds have equal volume level.
I have an mp3 file composed of two songs and joined using movavi. I've used audacity to cut what I don't want but one song plays louder than the other. How do I correct this? I've tried the envelope tool but I'm not sure I know what I'm doing!
