I too am new to Audacity, and am having the same problem of greyed out filters etc. I am using a Intel iMac 2.8Gb running Leopard 10.5.7, I am recording through a TERRATEC iVinyl pre-amp. Audacity recognises the pre-amp and I can record but cannot get the filters to work either on record or playback...
