Re: Too Bassy
I butted in on Marc's thread, and sorry about that. Alatham, you wrote: Pete, I believe you have a bad sound card, since you can't record properly. If you can listen to the output of the Walkman somewhere else (plug headphones into it, or plug it into a receiver) and it sounds ok there, then you sho...

Re: Too much bass on exported MP3 files
Hello Marc, Hope you don't mind my butting in on your thread. I don't have much to offer except that I believe the sound card is the culprit. I have a similar problem. I am putting some of my old cassettes into mp3. I don't have the knowledge that you do about filters and things like that, but I hav...
Too Bassy
I am using a sony Walkman Pro (old but still OK, I think - for playback anyway) to try and record from tape to Audacity. I am going line out on the walkman to line in on the sound card of my computer. I have 'line in' selected and the correct card in prefereces in Audacity. I can record and monitor ...

Re: Mixer toolbar source greyed out
Well just to report that things are going well. I disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS and then disabled the card in Device manager. And all is fine. I think the echo was caused by the auto-selection of Microsoft Sound mapper. I found that I actually had two identical sound cards, one onboard and ...

Re: Mixer toolbar source greyed out
Hi there wax, Thanks for your help. I have looked reasonably hard for updated drivers. Nothing at the most popular places, driverguide etc. And I think I have looked before. And I can't find the sound card that I have the drivers for! It's never ending. haha But today I have advanced in another way....

Re: copying part of song
Hi nate,
Import the song to Audacity. (File - Open - browse to file)
Click on the + button to make the view larger.
Put the cursor where you want to end your selection.
Edit - Select - Start to cursor.
File - export selection as MP3.
Choose filename and destination.
Bob is your uncle.

File conversion
I tried to import an m4a (AAC) file into Audacity a few minutes ago. But no joy. I downloaded a converter program (Free Mp3 Wma Converter - Lite Edition 1.6) and it seems to do the job just fine, but I was wondering what in the way of sound quality is sacrificed when converting files in this way? Re: Mixer toolbar source greyed out
Thanks for your reply, Wax. Although it's been a few days I haven't made any progress. I've been wondering whether an old sound card, for which I have the original drivers on disk, would do the trick. (I've found the driver disk, but can't lay my hands on the card at the moment). Or does it have to ...

Re: Mixer toolbar source greyed out
Well, I have searched for a driver for my soundcard. The Creative site says it's no longer supported and I should use the generic drivers supplied with the OS (ME). I can't find the driver files on 'driverguide' or indeed anywhere else. So I am afraid that I haven't made any forward progress at all....

Re: Mixer toolbar source greyed out
alatham, thanks for that. I wish I had found that page before, then I wouldn't have had to trouble you. I am sure I am using generic drivers for the sound card. I'll open the box and endavour to get the right one/ones tomorrow in the cold light of day. I know from past experiences that these sound b...
