Cannot monitor the input to Audacity on my computer speakers

I have input to Audacity from my turntable, the input meters show it, but I hear nothing out of my speakers. I can record to a file and then playback the file and hear that on my speakers. There is no such user as STEVEN-1, so the folder cannot exist. There is a user stevenlane, the folder C:\Users\stevenlane\Local\Temp\audacity_temp does exist and it can be written to. This is a standard Windows 10 drive, so will be NTFS One thought is that I had a previous version of Audacity instal...

I have just downloaded and installed Audacity version 3.0.2 and get the above error message when I open Audacity. I have uninstalled and re-installed, re-booting in between, to no avail.
