Re: Update Build Instructions for Windows, perhaps?

The build instructions work, can confirm. Just got this built here. The person posting above my reply suggesting additional "building debug version instructions" seem good and I think that instructions to debug from Visual Studio would be good. I had suggested some in the other thread above this. Re...

Re: Visual Studio 2019 16.8.3 has a bug? Open CMake Unknown error

I see. So these defines are typically passed into cmake as command line arguments now?

Re: Visual Studio 2019 16.8.3 has a bug? Open CMake Unknown error

Question: Looking at the source, when I see an ifdef block like this, what's the idiomatic way within this project structure to set these defines? #ifdef EXPERIMENTAL_DA #include "../images/DarkAudacityLogoWithName.xpm" #else #include "../images/AudacityLogoWithName.xpm" #endif Where would one set t...

Re: Visual Studio 2019 16.8.3 has a bug? Open CMake Unknown error

SOLVED. Got it working. After updating Visual Studio 2019, the next time through I got this error: https://i.imgur.com/wKl5mf0.png Severity Code Description Project File Line Suppression State Error (active) Generator is targeting x86, but x64 environment is inherited. C:\audiodev\audacity\CMakeSett...

Re: Simply save the opened file back

All true. I have checked the code out, and I see no reason why Audacity must forget all audio metadata, including file names, folder names, file formats, and the details of the encoding types that the imported file had when opened (96 khz, 24 bit float, or whatever). This amnesia is a sad thing, as ...

Re: Filename of a selected audio track at export time

Perhaps I haven't been clear? When you export, the steps in your steps that do not work are that there are folders and file formats to be matched. here's the actual set of instructions> 1. Open DAW of your choice. 2. Set DAW of your choice (ableton) to use Audacity to open .wav files. 3. Open the da...

Visual Studio 2019 16.8.3 has a bug? Open CMake Unknown error

Following the instructions to build audacity, the instructions for getting the custom version of wx built worked perfectly. At the point of opening the CMakeLIst file from Open > CMake... the first time things went well until this line, which I don't follow completely and could perhaps be a tad more...

Re: I really appreciate the import/export folder settings.

Right. So without destroying any existing functionality, it seems to me that each track in the audacity in memory entities, let's call it the "in memory project", could remember what format the import last came from, and what file name and folder that import came from. Since the existing practice is...

Re: Filename of a selected audio track at export time

Exactly. And I do intend to do exactly that. I think it's hilarious to read people justifying these edgy design decisions. We should have never let Audacity be a wav editor. Uh. That ship has sailed. I would reckon that since Audacity's main use is as a wav and mp3 file editor, and that the AUP proj...

I really appreciate the import/export folder settings.

Not sure when that got added but I downloaded Audacity 3.0 and the addition of the import/export folders makes the whole program better. It still seems to me that each track in the project should have memorized what format it came in from, and what file it came from and there should be either in the...
