Re: splitting recordings into separate tracks
hey all, I just realized something, and my discovery may just help any other dopes (like me), at least if they're trying to do something similar to me, which is to make a CONTINUOUS, non-stop mix of separate tracks; in my case it's overlapped tracks, like a mixtape, but others might have a live albu...

Re: splitting recordings into separate tracks
boy, did I just do something STUPID!! I exported to mp3, and clicked a little too quickly through the screens without reading. Thus, I selected "Use Label/Track Name" and "Overwrite Existing Files", which, given the nature of my Audacity project (overlapping songs), ruined all my song files! I had j...

Re: change tempo/speed/pitch: which will shorten LENGTH?
..did I download the wrong one? I had been using 1.2, then saw a post that said to upgrade for a particular feature.stevethefiddle wrote:...
I've just noticed in your signature that you list "Windows XP Pro - Audacity ® 1.3.12-beta (ANSI)".
Are you really using the ANSI version, and if you are, is there a reason why?

Re: change tempo/speed/pitch: which will shorten LENGTH?
steve, I created that screenprint to illustrate what I had seen. In retrospect, I wish I had printed my screen BEFORE I fixed it. There were no gaps, no silences, no white spaces in my project originally, and didn't put any in there, at least not intentionally. It was 24 songs, played with each new ...

Re: splitting recordings into separate tracks
yeah, I shoulda just used iTunes, but I misinterpreted the "WAV for Windows/AIFF for Mac" instruction. That would've saved me all that WMP nonsense and the new burner app. Would you also agree that one should choose a folder? I'll study your workflow and try to adapt it to my different application, ...

Re: Splitting recording into separate trackes
Okay, an update: I used Ctrl B and the Selection Tool to make 24 labels, all Artist - Song Title. Following the instructions from the manual, I then chose "File> Export Multiple" and WAV and chose to have those tracks saved to My Music, which is where the aup file was (this was mistake #1 I think; s...

Re: splitting recordings into separate tracks
what if there ARE no silences, like on a DJ mix? I'd still like to skip to the next (or previous) track, which could begin at the exact frame the track is introduced or at some close-by, arbitrary point. whomper, can use Ctrl B by simply moving the Selection Tool to the points I want to use, and cre...

Re: change tempo/speed/pitch: which will shorten LENGTH?
Thanks Steve; looks like I had the wrong denominator, using current length rather than desired length (Father Caselli, my high school advanced math teacher of 30+ years ago is rolling over in his grave!) I think whomper might be right about a bug though, as well as his tip about trying it on one tra...

Re: change tempo/speed/pitch: which will shorten LENGTH?
thx for the reply and the tips. I'll try to tighten it up, but I was only thinking that whatever pitch change that would shorten an 80 minute project by 30 seconds would be imperceptible, so why not give it a try....

change tempo/speed/pitch: which will shorten LENGTH?
Hi, I use Audacity as a DJ, not as a musician. The audio tracks I import are all entire songs, and my projects are simply glorified mixtapes with tight little blends where the songs transition. [it's very likely that I'm not only missing much of Audacity's potential in this regard, but also working ...
