Re: Recording mystery
Thanks for the link- I found the answer! : In Audacity, go to the Audio I/O tab of Preferences, select "USB Audio Codec" in the "Recording Device" dropdown, and choose "2 (Stereo)" in the dropdown under that (in Audacity 1.3.8 and later this will be in the "Devices" tab of Preferences) Right-click o...

Re: Recording mystery
I think the album is Mono itself. It doesn't say "Stereo" anywhere on the album, etc...Not sure whether that matters or not....
With some of the songs, the lead voice will come through fine, but on others it's in the background. I thought I had the Recording option on Stereo, but I'll try again.

Recording mystery
I have a USB turntable. I have an old calypso record that I was trying to record. When I play the song on the turntable I can hear the lead vocals just fine, but when I play it through Audacity, the lead vocals fade into the background and I can hear the background vocals as lead vocals. Anyone know...

Re: How to clip the part that's far too loud.
There's a bunch of things you do. Load into audacity, highight the part you want to reduce in volume/abrasiveness. If you want, View- Zoom to Selection. Under effect, you can choose to either: amplify, compressor, equalization, Normalize, FFT filter.......and probably a few other options that i'm no...

Glad I could be of service to you. Yea, the Ask and Record Toolbar is pretty amazing. I immediately thought of it as soon as I read your post.

Re: Damsel in distress--any REALLY SMART knights around?
Let me ask you this, are you trying to record music coming out of your speakers, or are just unable to have any sort of playback with Audacity? I was sort of confused reading your post. My computer doesn't have the "Stereo Mix" option either. so I have to import something that's already recorded or ...

Re: play back during recording
Glad to hear you find a solution to the problem. I have Windows Vista, which has a whole array of other wacky "quirks" that I have to work with.

Re: Importing from iTunes
It worked! I got it! I"m excited. And here all this time my co-workers convinced me that I "had" to burn it to disc.

Re: Importing from iTunes
Well, even if I"m downloaded songs from a disc into iTunes, it won't let let me then load them into Audacity. So I guess it's putting them in a format which is not Audacity-friendly (?)
