Re: Newbie 3.0.0 Question -I Don't Know Jack (audio server)

@the_yipper Realtime privileges may be assigned to group Audio when installing (or reconfiguring with dpkg-reconfigure) the jackd2 package. You must add your login user to group Audio in order to use realtime privileges in JACK. JACKd isn't automatically started at login and, as steve suggested, Qja...

Re: Help. Little tics around 6000-8000Hz. Not mouth noises

Hi,

I wonder if this is an USB artifact. I would be tempted to try interfacing your microphone to Audacity via JACK. Yes, I know it's another layer of audio management but at least it's going through a chain optimised for audio capture from USB devices.

Re: audacity doesn't show menu bar

Hi,

It must be related to the Apple-like theme you are using. I'm using the same version of Audacity from PPA on both Mint 20 and 20.1 Cinnamon and the menu bar shows when using a standard Mint theme.

Re: Is there a complete list of Audacity package dependencies? {SOLVED}

Hi, To be clear here. Panda Jim's packaging of Audacity 2.4.2 is not a flatpak, it's a Ubuntu-style .deb package hosted in a PPA. The flatpak packaging of Audacity 2.4.2 is maintained by the flathub.org core packaging team and it has a number of issues, one being that it doesn't support JACK. ATB, N...

Re: Linux Mint MATE 20 vs. Audacity 2.42 audio glitches

Hi, The Flatpak dependencies lie within the GNOME runtime mostly and it makes use of the installed ALSA and PulseAudio. I wouldn't spend too much time trying to investigate the Flatpak (it's a bit of a black-box). You can install the version from Panda Jim's PPA alongside the Flatpak (it uses the sa...

Re: Linux Mint MATE 20 vs. Audacity 2.42 audio glitches

Hi, There are two routes to installing Audacity 2.4.2 on Linux Mint 20 i.e. Flatpak and Panda Jim's PPA. For the Flatpak install the versions of libraries installed on your system are immaterial. The dependencies are provided by the Flatpak itself and additional runtimes (see flatpak list). For Pand...

Re: Behringer UM2 + Pyle PDMIC78 = Too quiet and noisy

Hi, I can recommend the AKG D5 dynamic microphone. It has a super-cardioid pattern and a decent output level for a dynamic. I like these as they are tuned for vocal recording and you can level the response with a small amount of mid and high-end level reduction if you want to reduce the little brigh...

Re: Audacity crashes pulseaudio recording when opened

Hi,

In regards of a newer kernel, Linux Mint 20 has an HWE version at 5.8.0. I don't know if that version would provide any improvement over the OP's current 5.4.0.

Re: Audacity crashes pulseaudio recording when opened

Hi, Yes, my fuser output was with Audacity recording audio. Regarding the audio group, the device nodes under /dev/snd are owned by root and group is audio but there is an ACL for your user set on them for r/w access so it shouldn't be an issue. The only other suggestion I have is that something is ...

Re: Audacity crashes pulseaudio recording when opened

HI,

Just out of interest, can you please post the results of executing groups, I'm wondering if you're not a member of group audio.
