Doesn't happen for me on Xubuntu. My guess is that it is specific the AwesomeWM. Have you tried with a different WM? Is Audacity OK on AwesomeWM other than the splash screen? Yea. Audacity has no problem on other wm's. But, as I see, you are using wxwidgets to make splash screen. If I run wxwidgets...
