Re: Catalina microphone issue with Audacity
I am one of those “always upgrade to the latest version” people. Apparently not a good idea in this instance. I am downgrading to the previous macOS and will watch this forum. Thanks for the assistance.

Re: Catalina microphone issue with Audacity
Any reason I would not be able to downgrade safely using the Apple time machine backup?

Re: Catalina microphone issue with Audacity
Yes, when I launch Audacity from the terminal, I can record.
The question I am grappling with is whether this is a reliable solution or whether I need to either downgrade the OS or find another audio recording software. I rely on Audacity to produce a weekly podcast.

Re: Catalina microphone issue with Audacity
Thanks for that. So I guess the question now is whether I should try to keep using Audacity with the Terminal trick, or restore my system to the previous OS.

Re: Catalina microphone issue with Audacity
Same problem here. Thanks to Chris for the "Terminal trick." That works, but when I start Audacity again there is no input at all. So am I correct in assuming that I must open Audacity every time using the Terminal trick until there is an actual solution to this?
Thanks.
Scott
Thanks.

Re: Static/distortion on recording in Yosemite
Has anyone had this issue with a newer Mac? Could it be partly a performance issue, or strictly a Yosemite/Audacity compatibility issue? (Don't know if anyone has the answer to this but I thought it would be worth asking.)

Re: Static/distortion on recording in Yosemite
Is it possible to be more specific? Make and model number of the mixer, and does it connect to the Mac via USB or line-in? Gale It is an analog mixer; output of the mixer running into the line-in on the Mac. For what it's worth, I have used this setup for five years and over 200 recordings. I had o...

Re: Static/distortion on recording in Yosemite
OK, just did the test with Audacity 2.1.0 and buffer at 10. About an hour and a half recording. No problems. Just a word of caution. Be sure that your tests are an exact duplication of the problem recording conditions. I can record all day from a tape player or other prerecorded source and have zer...

OK, just did the test with Audacity 2.1.0 and buffer at 10. About an hour and a half recording. No problems. I really can't afford this to keep happening. Three people are committing over an hour of their time and the whole thing getting lost or corrupted with the popping sound. Any idea which is sa...

Re: Static/distortion on recording in Yosemite
With the recent crash, I was saving the project. I had not opened "About Audacity." I am recording with a cheap mixer running into a Mac desktop.
I will try a sample recording with Audacity 2.1.0 and the buffer at 10.
