Re: Newbie 3.0.0 Question -I Don't Know Jack (audio server)

Thank you so much... I don't think Jack is connected at login -although I read that this gives superuser privileges to the person logging in, so as to use the "real-time" (kernel level, I guess) functionality; something to do with having priority over the audio bus in real time, without being interr...

Newbie 3.0.0 Question -I Don't Know Jack (audio server)

I am running Ubuntu with a 5.4.0-72 low-latency kernel. I got the kernel recently when I was trying to switch to Ubuntu "Studio" It looks like what Ubuntu Studio is, is a link to a repository that serves a ton of audio/video applications. There is now a ton of such things in my application menu.. I ...

Re: High Quality Audio Streching in Change Tempo

@steve; Does this mean that some time soon, after the software updater does it's thing, my high quality sliding scale pitch/time effect will suddenly start working, or will I still have to download and install something (I am trying to take a crash course in Linux to put the lockdown period to good ...

I have more than one audacity on the same machine

After I upgraded to 2.4.2 on a Ubuntu 20.04 machine, I still had the icons in my applications from the older one, plus another one that I got through snap or flatpak. for a total of 3 of them. When I click on the third one, 2.4.2 comes up, and this one has more effects in the effects menu. If I clic...

Re: High Quality Audio Streching in Change Tempo

The same seems to be true for the sliding scale pitch changer; it's in my effects menu (2.4.2 on Ubuntu 20.04, btw) but when I click on it I get the "report a crash" box opening with oops, something went wrong...that must use the same library... You could try using the change speed to slow it down w...

Re: Routing 1 USB Mic to Audacity + Zencastr

Yeah, using Pulse, I can shoot a video through Cheese webcam, but simultaneously capture the audio into audacity running at the same time; that way I get the (grainy cheesy) video, but with much better quality than the built in laptop mic that cheese defaults to. It's still there on the video, but I...

Re: No Sound while playing LP

When you click "start monitoring" do you see the LEDs jumping? You might have to put software play through "on" instead of off; otherwise you will not hear the track you are recording coming through the headphone jack..

Re: How to reduce reverb or echo?

Maybe by not having a profile it is just noise-gating it (since the echo is softer than the signal itself) maybe you could use the noise gate and adjust it to get the same result.

Ah, thank you. Plus another thing I thought of is, I have my import setting on: make a copy (safer); and that sounds like it would require more memory, too...

Cannot Open Large Files

I recently left my phone's audio recorder running for almost a whole day, creating a .91 gigabyte file, out of which I wanted to trim about 2 hours of myself jamming on guitar. But, I have been unable to load into Audacity. I am running Audacity 2.2.2 on Ubuntu 18.04 PPA version. Is there a size lim...
