Re: Windows 10 and unstable pitch

Thank you, DVDdoug. I have downloaded the Glitch Free link and read through quite a bit, and enacted all the Chapter 4 suggestions. I notice the "glitches" it mentions are of the pausing, stuttering and "clicking" kind, and don't seem to include the one I have which is the momentary pitch wobble (wh...

Re: Windows 10 and unstable pitch

I have today recorded three guitar pieces - each of which has a few audible pitch wobbles occuring (seemingly) at random. I am pretty sure it is not Audacity causing it, nor the mic. My suspicion is the windows10 laptop (a Lenovo G50). When I recorded guitar duets about 3-4 years ago using a Dell la...

Windows 10 and unstable pitch

I am wondering if anyone else has found this problem when recording a musical instrument with a Windows 10 PC/laptop? I have posted previously and had great attention and help from Steve, Trebor and kozikowski. Today I updated to Audacity 2.2.1 I checked the recording devices by right clicking the s...

Re: Unstable pitch when recording acoustic guitar

I found this in the driver properties tab under "events". It means nothing to me but is it useful? Driver Management concluded the process to install driver wdma_usb.inf_amd64_48d65adf692e432c\wdma_usb.inf for Device Instance ID USB\VID_E4B7&PID_0812&MI_01\6&3C9D909&0&0001 with the following status:...

Re: Unstable pitch when recording acoustic guitar

Crickey. Just repeated the open string exercise with the usb mic removed - so using the built-in mic... no wobbles. Tried a short piece - sound is not nice but it stays at pitch - no wobbles. So it looks like it's been the mic all along. Grrr. So now I need a better mic that will record guitar clear...

Re: Unstable pitch when recording acoustic guitar

Have now completed the updates for the Lenovo G50. I recorded 20 seconds of me repeatedly playing just an open E string. The recording has 4 clear pitch wobbles...

Re: Unstable pitch when recording acoustic guitar

Thanks Steve and Trebor for again taking the time with this. Steve - the mic I bought from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Professional-Condenser-Microphone-Broadcast-Jomst/dp/B076WZVWYZ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1513245566&sr=8-1&keywords=Professional+Condenser+Microphone+USB+Broadcast+Recording+Podc...

Re: Unstable pitch when recording acoustic guitar

Oh dear. It turns out that the old Vista laptop with a previous version of Audacity are showing exactly the same problem. I recorded a piece this morning, played it back over loudspeakers and it sounded as if it was recorded on an old cassette recorder with duff batteries - the pitch kept wobbling e...

Re: Unstable pitch when recording acoustic guitar

Thank you, Steve. I have tried all the USB sockets - a USB 3.0 and a USB 2.0 - with the same result from each. As the older Vista laptop is working well, and I can position it at my elbow, it's actually more convenient to use that for the moment but I would really like to resolve the issue between m...
