Re: The Four Horsemen of Audio Recording
It's a study in overkill, isn't it? Maybe to your standard person trying to record things at home, but I don't think so. Nothing matters more than having options, especially if some unforeseen thing happens that ruins the entire recording and nobody was monitoring in checking the whole time. But ev...

Re: Shure PG42 and Recording Tips, Advice, Etc.
I love that game, The Stanley Parable. I played it once, but that session went on and on till I found as many endings as I could. Here's the situation as I see it. Your quality is already comparable and surpasses that of most streamers. If that's all you were going for, then you've achieved it. But ...

Re: Help with low RMS
You'll probably want to use a compressor to boost the RMS, versus normalization which simply turns up the volume (which is why people are suggesting a limiter as well, so you don't clip). Re: How to record from turnables
Usually the output from a record player is very quiet, like a microphone. Like a mic, you'll need a preamplifier to boost the signal without also boosting the noise floor. It's why record players are hooked up through an amplifier before the sound is passed on to the speakers.

Re: Mastering tips requested
What's going to get you 75% of the way there is equalizing each track in solo and in combination with each other, compressing each track more than you think it would need, and getting relative levels set between each other. All in that order. After that you can tweak the settings and start adding re...

Re: Automatically/Smoothly lower volume when combining track
Check out the manual here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/auto_duck.html You can use Auto Duck but you'll want a semi-fast "Outer fade down length" (aka the attack) and a slow "Outer fade up length" (aka the release). This will make it so the music ducks fairly quickly (not too fast or it'll sou...

Re: Which Headphones is best for mixing tune?
If you want to keep it cheap but professional, I've mixed for a decade mainly in Sennheiser HD280 Pro's for detail work while referencing my monitors for general checks. They're very transparent without the mid scoop or bass boost most consumer headphones have.

Re: Noise only when speaking
Are you using a noise gate that might be reducing noise when you're NOT talking? Could be one more step to discovering the problem.
