if you are using the "pulse" or "default" playback device in Audacity's Device Toolbar , please see http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Linux_Issues#pulse . Had already applied that setting to keep Audacity from playing too fast. Anyways, switching to HDA Intel PCH: ALC fixed my problem. Thanks!

Audacity playback gives static crackling? [SOLVED]
I recorded a voice over which sounds okay through a variety of software.
However, audacity (2.1.2) on Ubuntu 15.04 gives me an awful crackling, clicking, popping, like it is playing antique vinyl.
Any clue?
