Synthetic stereo

I have a few mono wav files which sound quite good, however there are a few which are very starkly mono in sound. Is there a way using Audacity to give them a more stereo-esque sound?

I am using Audacity 2.1.0 with Windows 7, and I have been editing mp3 files. In order to maintain a flow of music, I'd like to remove as much as I can of the silence at the start of each track.
