Audacity Forum

If I import an MP3 and then Export the MP3, the file size is a few kilobytes smaller. I assume this means there is a loss in quality by simply importing and exporting. Is this negligible? Is there a way to avoid this by changing a preference and bumping up the quality? Thanks

I want to use Audacity to fade into songs or fade out at the end of songs in MP3 format. That's all I do to mess with the song, fade in and fade out. My question is will I lose quality when I Export As MP3? I look through Preferences and I see a lot of options regarding Sample Rates, converters, OGG...
