Re: Workflow suggestion for external audio in video producti
That's a good point - will run some tests with the input mode set to various settings (high, med, low). Could be I had it set to "high" and the recorder thought that meant my signal was high so it would have to trim it down. Thanks for the help so far everyone. That being said, I have audio now from...

Re: Workflow suggestion for external audio in video producti
Where is this "high" setting of which you speak? I would have picked medium volume or low volume to make the preamp give me more Zot (technical term). Aside from various volume and trim knobs, the recorder has a digitally selectable input mode for each input channel. You can choose to use the inter...

Re: Workflow suggestion for external audio in video producti
For this shoot I powered the mic with an AA battery. The mic can also run off 48v phantom power provided by the DP-800EX.

Workflow suggestion for external audio in video production?
Hey everyone— I have been into video production for quite a while and finally decided it was time to upgrade my sound equipment. I now capture my audio completely separate from my video and sync it up in post-processing. I am using a Tascam DP-800EX as my field recorder, and a Rode NTG-2 as my prima...

Re: Recommendations for a studio mic for vocals?
I'm probably not enough of a sound guru to answer that satisfactorily... But it has 8 channels, and can record two simultaneously. I've never needed to record more than one at a time. Each input channel has independent volume trim from the source, and it's a dial. So no "low/med/high" (although it d...

Re: Recommendations for a studio mic for vocals?
Awesome, thanks for all the info! The GLS looks like a good option for me if it's as similar to the SM58 as you say. $30 is a bargain for a mic that nice. In answer to your digital/analog question, I use a Tascam DP-008EX. It handles the recording (and wants to handle the mixing/eq-ing/mastering as ...

Recommendations for a studio mic for vocals?
Hey everyone— I've done some research as I build my home studio, and it looks like the best way to go for recording high-quality vocals is a nice unidirectional supercartoid microphone. I looked around and the consensus seems to be that Shure's SM58 is the go-to for professional quality audio. Looki...

Re: Correct adapter for my mic + recorder combo?
So... the lav mics just don't work with the DP-800EX so far. I plug it in (with adapter) to either the TS input A or TS input B, and immediately lose anything that resembles a signal on whatever track I have those inputs set to record onto. Even with all my input levels cranked up to the highest I g...

Re: Correct adapter for my mic + recorder combo?
Yeah, I checked that the phantom power was a match before buying the NTG-2. That being said, I will probably still just use it with a AA. Anyway, thanks for the help. In terms of physical size, I was pretty sure that a standard 1/4" plug to 1/8" jack adapter was what I needed, but I wanted to be sure.
