Re: Apply De-emphasis?

You are both quite right that the poster cannot hear a difference between any of the 3 (fine) options - but he appreciates the beauty of the final curve, as it were, nonetheless!
:-D

Thanks guys!

Re: Apply De-emphasis?

Thanks Steve! I appreciate you taking the time to offer an assist! A cursory - things are a bit hectic - listen says even w/ defaults this does a good job - a quick A/B of koz.deemph and steve.deemph files comes up a draw. Will test and tweak over the weekend. Maybe I'll snip and attach a pre-emphas...

Re: Apply De-emphasis?

Koz, I don't know a lot about the technicalities - but this is how SoX handles it (from the SoX PDF doc): deemph Apply ISO 908 de-emphasis (a treble attenuation shelving filter) to 44.1kHz (Compact Disc) audio. Pre-emphasis was applied in the mastering of some CDs issued in the early 1980s. These in...

Apply De-emphasis?

I have files (.wav from an 80's Japan CD) that have pre-emphasis applied - is there a way to apply de-emphasis to correct these using Audacity?

Re: How to avoid clipping when downmixing 5.1 to Stereo?

OK - I'm getting it! Thanks for taking the time to offer up the excellent primer, Koz! Thankfully most of the DVD-As I've played with have a dedicated Stereo program or at least have the mixdown capability - so it will be rare to have to do this manually - that said, good to know how to attack when ...

Re: How to avoid clipping when downmixing 5.1 to Stereo?

So, Duplicate the center channel and push one R the other L? Or? I am thinking that this 5.1 mix (Porcupine Tree - Stupid Dream) is most likely a 'you in the midddle of the band thing' - having no way to listen in 5.1 - dunno. Given each will have its own nuances, any ballpark formula for downmixing...

Re: How to avoid clipping when downmixing 5.1 to Stereo?

Thanks Koz! Really appreciate the detailed response. The 'original' tracks/channels were extracted and encoded to WAV from a DVD-A using Merge Groups option (again, DVDAExplorer - xp/parallels) - channel separation is preserved (like layers in photoshop) and separates into individual channels when o...

How to avoid clipping when downmixing 5.1 to Stereo?

Have extracted the 5.1 files from a DVD-A - (using DVDAExplorer - Stereo DownMix was not supported by this particular DVD-A). I wish to build a Stereo only (as I don't listen in 5.1) DVD. When I downmix (default settings) in Audacity the resulting files show rather extreme clipping (whereas the orig...
