Is there a setting in Windows for line in

So I have audacity recording line-in from a mixer. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I never change any of the settings and the output from the mixer is always going to the same port.

Do you guys know of a setting that needs to be checked/unchecked for line-in to work?

Where are audacity temp files by default

So while I was recording something, my laptop ran out of batteries and died.

So the recording has some temp files which I want to recover, but I don't know which folder they are in.

Anyone know the default folder?

I'm using M-Audio Session with Fasttrack USB( I don't think there was a model number, not sure though). We are recording with a microphone with an XLR cable. There are some problem with the original recording but a lot more when I tried to slow down the original track of 25 minutes and stretch it to...
