Re: Overlapping in FFT analysis

The selection of entire audio file is very easy in "CTRL-A" mode. There is no need to duplicate this function. (1) It doesn't. Perhaps you have the "Select all audio in project, if none selected" preference option enabled: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tracks_preferences.html ??? We are talk...

Re: Overlapping in FFT analysis

Plot Spectrum analyzes the selected audio, up to the first 10485760 samples. Thank You for explanation. It isn't a good idea. Please explain. The selection of entire audio file is very easy in "CTRL-A" mode. There is no need to duplicate this function. Sometimes the analysis of very short time rang...

Re: Overlapping in FFT analysis

I'm not sure what the overlap percentage is, but as there is no user control for that such information is only of academic interest and the source code is freely available for anyone that wants to look it up. It's important to know what the overlap is, even there is no control. It may be 0% for exa...

Overlapping in FFT analysis

Analyse-> Plot spectrum. It is not clear how Audacity averages the spectrum. How the FFT windows are overlapped? The manual contains the sentence: "currently only the first 237.8 seconds of selected audio can be analyzed". Why? At any sampling rate? Where is beginning of FFT window when there is no...

Re: How to increase FFT resolution?

Thank You very much. I'm waiting for the next release of Audacity! I have a few questions for other FFT analysis parameters. I want to start a new thread.
Regards,

Re: How to increase FFT resolution?

I suspected that this was not what you meant, which is why I asked. ;) Anyway, I think we're clear now that we are talking about "Plot Spectrum". My mistake! I'm very sorry. I must be blind. This seems to be a simple change and I agree that it could be useful when looking at lower frequencies. The ...

Re: How to increase FFT resolution?

I previously asked: "Which FFT window size are you asking about? Plot Spectrum? Wave track spectrogram view? The Equalization effect? Somewhere else?" Your reply was ambiguous. Do I take it that you are referring to " Plot Spectrum "? OK. The second post in thread by Kozikowski was focused on "Plot...

Re: How to increase FFT resolution?

In the current Audacity 2.0.3 the FFT size in "Edit > Preference > Spectrograms" goes up to a maximum of 2^15 (32768). The developers decided that going higher than this is just too slow. Audacity 2.0.3 is available here: http://audacityteam.org/download/ The "Size" parameter in "Analyze/Plot Spect...

Re: How to increase FFT resolution?

Thank you for suggestion. I will try. Unfortunately, I need both - windows and linux versions. Since there is no problem with increase the FFT resolution - the developers will do it.

In the current Audacity 2.0.3 the FFT size in "Edit > Preference > Spectrograms" goes up to a maximum of 2^15 (32768). The developers decided that going higher than this is just too slow. The window size of 2^16 must be slower then 2^15. It can't be too slow for these who need it. The user who need...
