Re: Question about line-in on an iMac

Yep, the newer iMac (with a -12 to 12 dB range) had no problem getting the gain level correct. So I'm chalking the older iMac's audio up to just being weird.

Ah, yes - same here. Sorry, I missed that detail about the path when I "Got Info" .

Re: Question about line-in on an iMac

OK, I think I have this figured out. On the iMac I use for recording LP's, I see in Audio MIDI Setup that the range of dB values for the line-in is 0 to 22.5 . On the other hand, the range on a different, newer iMac that I have is -12 to 12 . So for whatever reason, the older iMac can't gain down be...

Re: Question about line-in on an iMac

Leave Audacity closed and go into your Mac system preferences. Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input. You should see a bouncing blue light sound meter and a volume slider. See if there's any position of that slider that results in upper third bouncing of the sound meter without clip...

Question about line-in on an iMac

I have been recording my vinyl to hard disk using Audacity for some time. I've gotten pretty good results, but I've lately run into a problem that has raised a question for me. My setup has gone through 3 evolutions: 1) B&O 2404 turntable with MMC4 cartridge -> Yamaha R900 receiver's phono pream...

Re: Spitfish Audio Units plugin no workie [SOLVED]

It doesn't. Again, not that it matters to me - just trying to help you out in case it's important from your perspective.

Maybe UB's that are configured not to be open-able by Rosetta don't say "Universal" .

Re: Spitfish Audio Units plugin no workie [SOLVED]

From what I can understand, UB's can be opened with Rosetta in order to run their PPC side. Look at the attachment for an example. This is all academic, in any case. I'm not going to try to use Spitfish anymore. I've since become convinced that I need to replace my vinyl stylus (and have one on orde...

Re: Spitfish Audio Units plugin no workie [SOLVED]

Sorry! Audacity.

Interestingly, Get Info for Audacity does not show that it is a UB, but it must be - again, the same download (i.e. downloaded from the same place on the Audacity website) works on the PPC Mac Mini.

I'm confused. :)

Re: Spitfish Audio Units plugin no workie [SOLVED]

OK, this is just to satisfy my curiosity: I thought I'd try running Audacity 2 on my Intel Mac using Rosetta, just to see if the Fishfillets plugins would work, but I have no "Open With Rosetta" checkbox when I Get Info. I know it must be a Universal Binary, because the same download (I th...

Re: Spitfish Audio Units plugin no workie [SOLVED]

I remembered I have one of the original Mac Mini's (PPC) so I dusted it off and loaded Audacity 2 (which is a UB) on it and also Fishfillets - I now see the Fishfillet plugins in the Effects menu. :)
