Re: Scripting Noise Removal

Alexius, just to clarify, no - there are no keyboard shortcuts for effects - it's a common request. Do you want to add a vote for it? Sure. I think your piece might be worth mentioning Please feel free to to do so. Keep in mind that, on Mac OS X, it is possible to assign shortcuts to apps using Sys...

Scripting Noise Removal

Audacity v1.3.13-beta, Mac OS X v10.6.8 Audacity's noise filter is basic, but reasonably effective. It is applied in two stages, (a) get noise profile, and (b) remove noise. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Noise_Removal I find that there are two issues with applying it. First, Audacity ...

Re: Editing Multiple Files

In Audacity you can work on multiple files sequentially or concurrently. To apply an effect to multiple files at the same time, Import multiple files into one project, select all of the tracks and apply the effect. You're joking, right? Have you missed the part where I said "for instance, edit...

Re: Editing Multiple Files

Why did the developers of Sound Studio decided to upgrade their software to do it the "wrong" way? I guess you'd have to ask them/him. As I wrote in another thread, Sound Studio has a rather checkered past; to be fair to the original/current developer, some of the changes were introduced ...

Re: Editing Multiple Files

We're usually pretty pleased when we can get one song out the door. Non multa, sed multum is a good slogan for music, but is Audacity for music editing only? In fact, you remind me of yet another item linked to the two above, which should have been first-- (3) Unitasking. Although Audacity allows s...

Editing Multiple Files

Audacity v1.3.13-beta, Mac OS X v10.6.8 Two issues regarding editing multiple (AIFF) files with Audacity. (1) Window Cycling. As you know, in Mac OS X one can cycle through an app's open windows with the cmd-tilde shortcut. So let's say I open 5 files with Audacity. Here's what I expect to happen: I...

Re: Incorrect AAC Opening

Since the line encoder: Lavf52.94.0 suggests that the file was encoded with ffmpeg, I downloaded and installed the ffmpeg 0.6.2 libraries as instructed http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/FAQ:Installation_and_Plug-Ins#installffmpeg and tried again. This time, Audacity opened with the correct sample r...

Re: Incorrect AAC Opening

You could try encoding to HE in iTunes ("Import Settings" in the Preferences) and see if that fares better than the file you had the issue with. No problem with iTunes and HE; but the problem file was not encoded with iTunes and AFAICT used a different profile. Anyway, I normally use for ...

Re: Incorrect AAC Opening

Which QuickTime have you got? I suggest consulting Apple's overview of QuickTime http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/QuickTime/RM/Fundamentals/QTOverview/QTOverview_Document/QuickTimeOverview.html as well as this chapter of John Siracusa's review in Ars http://arstechnica.com/appl...

Re: Incorrect AAC Opening

OK, here's some additional info: (1) Just for fun, I tried the file on a few other apps. Amadeus Pro, Peak 5, Max, and (surprise, surprise) QuickTime Player all opened it just like Audacity (mono, 22.05kHz). Sound Studio 4 doesn't open it, and Fission 1.6 opens it, but doesn't seem to find any audio...
