Why do I have to convert M4A files?
With Audacity for Windows, although I have the lame library installed, Audacity tells me that I need to convert M4A files into WAV in order to import them. Audacity for Mac does not show this message. Why is this so?

(Audacity 2.2.2 on MacOS 10.12.6)
I'm using Audacity to convert Vinyl records into MP4.
I found that the recorded copies, when played back, take about 8% longer in time than the original recordings.
Why is this, and how can I fix it?

Tiger...Hmm. That's the lame for Audacity 1.3.13. They're different. I would probably download and install Audacity 1.3.13. The reason why I deliberately downloaded the old version was, that the download page suggested this version for Tiger. Can I run the newer version safely with OSX10.4 too? Ron...

I understand that, in order to generate MP3 files with Audacity 1.2.5 (on MacOSX 10.4), I need the LAME library to be installed. I downloaded the library 3.98.2, which came as a pkg file, and installed the package. This worked fine - I was only surprised that the installer did not offer me the choic...
