To fix it in Vista (or Windows Server 2008), you have to enable Stereo Mix under Recording Devices. Right-click over the speaker icon in the System Tray > Recording Devices. I have this exact same problem...except I'm running Audacity on Linux (Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy) and my audio device shows up as HDA ATI SB (Alsa mixer). I've tried changing my output/input under Preferences in Audacity to every option listed, and I can't seem to find a device that'll let me record. Anybod...
