HUMBLE APOLOGIES TO ALL! I am a newbie and did not understand. My problem is not Overdub. I have just discovered the Mute and Solo buttons on the tracks and that is what I needed to play only one track at a time.

Thanks for the replies. However, they do not help. I have selected microphone-input in Preferences/Devices. Also, in Prefences/Recording, Overdub is unchecked and Transport/Overdub is unselected. But I still get overdubbing. I record on track one, stop, record again, the second time on track 2. When...

cannot disable Overdub
Using Audacity 1.3.13 Beta (unicode) on Windows 7. I cannot disable the Overdub. The check box in Edit/Preferences/Recording is UNchecked and the Transpot/Overdub is also off but I still get overdub on the first track when I record the second track That is, both recordings are heard on track 1. vargo
