I am going 'line out' from the deck to the 'mic' input on laptop That's the problem. You need to connect to a line input. input level from cassestte deck causing distortion

I am trying to record from cassette deck to Audacity. I am going 'line out' from the deck to the 'mic' input on laptop. The levels are too high and I can't adjust them down. There is distortion. Also it seems like it might be restricted to mono? The main thing right now though is the distortion.
