Audacity has developed a problem ...

I record input and it appears to be recording at normal rate. But when I playback it runs at twice (approx) normal speed.

Haven't altered any settings ... why is it suddenly doing this?

Been using audacity for several years now and very happy with it. But quite suddenly, after recording something through the sound card, it has started playing back at double speed.
