I'll check how the .aif files were recorded and let you know what the bit format is. I am concerned that if Audacity does not allow levels over 0dB during a file import, then the utility of Audacity is inherently limited in some real world situations. .AIF file import clipping
When importing .aif files (recorded on a Mac), Audacity seems to be chopping off all portions of waveforms that exceed +/- 1.0. When I right click the scale to view an imported track at +/- 2.0, the waveform of the entire imported is definitely getting chopped off exactly at +/-1.0, evidently gettin...

I am trying to record audio arriving on a USB port on a Ubuntu 10.10 laptop. The audio is being sent by a Mackie ProFX12 mixing console.
