I finally got the USB connection to work after several time disconnecting the USB cable and reconnecting

Thanks Steve I tried that but did not work. I checked the USB ports on the the computer. The troubleshooting indicated they were all working properly. I will try a new USB cable from my cassette player and see if that makes a difference. On the occasions that it did work the USB Codex was an option ...

I want to record using a USB connection to desktop. Sometimes Audacity shows the USB option under "Edit" Preference, but most time not.
