Thanks guys for all the help it turns out it is a earth problem, i recorded with out the mains cable in and the sound quality was brilliant, just need to buy a new batery now as the one in my laptop last about 5 mins LOL!!

Hi Steve, ive gone through the wiki link you gave me, and turned every working thing off, regarding the disk maintenance programs that check for fragmentation im not sure how to turn that off but i know its set to check once a month, one thing tho, with going throught all the things on the wiki link...

I think so i've set the sample rate both to 44100 and 16 bit but still get the skipping, the skipping isn't all the time its only happens say every 3 mins, not to sure if that helps anymore?

Thanks for the info, but again i tried this and still no joy, i'm wondering if its my soundcard, from when i upgraded my operating system, i had to reinstall the drivers for the soundcard!!!

thanks for all the info koz, but i still cant get the random skipping, i've turned the internet off turned the antivirus software, unplugged everything more than once, i used to be able to record ok until, i upgraded to windows7, do you think that could of caused this?
