Re: Recording from multiple microphones through a mixer?

The 404 is not a "mixer." It's a multi-channel (4) interface. Units like this typically come out of the box stereo (2-chnanel) and to get multi-channel you have to make special arrangements either by installing special drivers, or even a whole new audio editor program. Sometimes an audio editor will...

Re: Lag issues and worse

Do you let your Windows machine do automatic updates? That's not a good idea in the middle of a show. Make it notify you and then you can update at a good stopping point.

Re: Lag issues and worse

My project file expanded from 1.9mb to 9.3gb It should be noted that the AUP3 file is the whole show . The AUP file in the earlier Audacity is a simple edit manager text file. The real sound is in the _DATA folder. I'm guessing your _DATA folder of the same name is 9GB. Without knowing any more abo...

Re: Lag issues and worse

Sure.

https://www.fosshub.com/Audacity-old.html

The last legacy version was 2.4.2. 3.0.0 had teething problems. Run away.

3.0.2 is current.

Fair warning that 2.4.2 will not open an aup3 project. 3.0.2 should open both.

Re: Reducing booming

In the last message, there was an attachment called rms-normalize.ny. Download that and install it in your Audacity. This is where it could get sticky. Have you ever installed a plugin to your Audacity? I know exactly how to do it...on a Mac. Your built-in instructions should help. The target for th...

Re: Reducing booming

Mastering is a three-step process. You are urged to take the steps in order, don't add any in the middle, and don't leave any out. It is a Suite, a harmonious grouping. They clean up after each other. After you set all this up, the tools and settings stick and it should be possible to rip through th...

Re: Clipping

I'm recording in hotels so I can't do much about street noise and other noise in the hotels. That can work as long as you're not "pretending" to be in a studio. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/clips/Interview-Cafe-SampleClip.mp3 For that I always record the base track in Dual mode with a backup...

Re: Clipping

Someone said that it can damage equipment. Not digital equipment. The digital system just doesn't care. You might run into analog problems. If you play highly clipped music loudly into a good speaker system, the high-pitched, crisp, gritty clipped sound could damage the tweeter. I'm not sure whethe...

Portable Settings

See: Attached screen grab. PortableSettings.png That's from Applications on this High Sierra Mac. I generally just create a new folder and install Audacity into it, full stop. I have a machine with 12 of those—all different versions. The only shortcoming I've ever found is when I need to find a spec...

Re: Mastering

When you apply RMS Normalize, what does your control panel look like? You can use the Snipping Tool in Windows to capture a small part of the screen. Post the picture file from any forum text window > Attachments > Add Files. There were two RMS Normalizes. https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.ph...
