Re: Reducing booming

I got pieces. 2.2.2 is a bit old. I have a question posted about the missing tools. This must have been before I designed the ACX Mastering Suite. Setting the RMS of a voice track is a trick. Almost all of the effects tools work on waveform tips and peaks, not show loudness. There is no convenient m...

Re: Mastering

All day today I tried different settings for the Gain control This is the gain control on the back of the Yeti, right? If you can't change that and get predictable changes in your voice, then you're not driving. At least one software program is "helping you." There are two immediate possibilities. ...

Re: Mastering

... here's the attachment (I hope) It's there. Not only noisy, but the voice seems pretty echoey for someone with 9 books. either the noise is wrong or the RMS is wrong. Another out-there symptom. Audiobook Mastering guarantees both Peak and RMS (Loudness). You can put floor sweepings in there and ...

Re: Reducing booming

The macro is a shortcut to automatically running the three tools in Audiobook Mastering. It's only unconditionally stable in Audacity 3.0.2, but you can run the three tools manually. I'll need to remember the version variations. Loudness Normalization wasn't always called that, and Filter Curve used...

Re: Mastering

Post some of the noise.

Include a word or two and then five or six seconds of thick line noise. Post it as WAV.

Scroll down from a forum text window > Attachments > Add Files.

Re: ACX test

is there some 'reset' I ought to apply? Sort of. There are two ACX Checks. The older one would run out of steam on longer presentations. This is the newer one. ACX-Check.ny You can open ACX-Check.ny in a text editor and read it (don't save anything). The newer one is by Steve. The older one was by ...

Re: Mastering

Could be simpler than that. Are you sure you're still using your Yeti? Do the scratch test and include your laptop internal microphone. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/clips/ScratchTest2.mp3 Have you taken to using Skype or Zoom? They can change your sound settings and they don't ask you. I once...

Re: Reducing booming

Note there is a rumble and boom filter built into Audiobook Mastering. That's why you sound human now. If you're in Audacity 3.0.2, Mastering comes as a one-step Macro and not as a collection of individual tools. Post back if you want to go that route.

Re: Reducing booming

raw voice2.wav That is better. Closer and more intimate and less like speaking to me down a long tunnel. Noise is better, too. Less machine shop. I mastered the last clip and applied very gentle Noise Reduction of the Beast (6, 6, 6) and it passes audiobook standards. Screen Shot 2021-05-10 at 9.41...

Re: Reducing booming

Shotgun microphones are good at rejecting sounds from the rear and sides, but they record you perfectly and everything behind you. If you have a polished, rich-looking wood background, then what you really need is a choma-key blue, cyan, or lime-green soundproof background, good lighting, and key in...
