Re: Background noise :

OK, I'll play bad cop. The telephone qualifies as a second performance and we can't easily split two different performances in a mixed show. Noise Reduction is generally used for constant noises such as lighting whine or computer fan noise. It's not much good for noises that move around. Spectral ed...

Re: Crackling when two separate clips are played

Audacity has tools which can help with this. You don't have to guess at the volume. Yes, if you play multiple tracks at the same time, some of the sounds can add up to more than 100%. That's not serious inside Audacity because of its weird sound format, but the instant you export a sound file like t...

Re: Bit Rate Issue

The bitrate for ACX is not allowed to change. Use Constant 192. Screen Shot 2021-06-21 at 1.12.21 AM.png That's from the submission requirements here. https://www.acx.com/help/acx-audio-submission-requirements/201456300 You only make the MP3 once at the end of reading and editing. When you read some...

Re: Audacity not opening at all on MacOS

The Dock is a convenient shortcut. Does Audacity open if you Go (top of screen) > Applications > Audacity.

but can't find an option to edit. That's not an accident. Editing old posts makes the message impossible to follow. Keep stepping through messages in the normal order. Post additional information or even a correction and just say so. "You know two weeks ago when I said my computer was a PC with a b...

can step in the door and start my journey. The reading thing isn't the goal...unless it is. Are you going to get good at voice work and then go do something else? I ask that because what usually happens is someone buys a microphone promising to make them a star, badly reads an entire book and then ...

die hard fan of audio books Who is your favorite reader and how many of their books do you have? Do you check them out of the library and listen to them while running on the beach? My favorite voiceover guy is Don LaFontaine. He got so identified with the coming attractions voice-overs that Geico I...

Re: The Notch filter don't want to work !

Describe the glitch. As a fuzzy rule, notch filter doesn't do anything useful with ticks, pops, or other very short time duration disturbances. The tool needs time. Motor whine, computer fan, kettle whistle, etc. My silly metaphor is telling somebody to identify all picket fences whose pickets (boar...

Re: What’s Causing this Odd Clipping?

The stereo pathway doesn't go through the half and double business, so technically, that's the best way. Still, that's only 6dB out of some 96dB of loudness range, so nobody is going to stop breathing either way. In all cases, you should pay attention to the Volume and Overload indicators on your de...

Re: Why does audacity convert 16 & 24bit files to 32bit float?

editing in 32bit is preferable because rounding errors are more precice. I think you're being a little too "gentle tinkering around the edges" about this. 32-floating doesn't overload. If you apply an effect, filter, process, or correction that causes the timeline waves to exceed 100%, that's the e...
