Re: Mastering

I have no idea. Mastering is based on the idea that once you get rid of rumble and low-pitch sounds and settle on an RMS (loudness) value, any peaks and tips that stick up are relatively unimportant and may be processed without affecting the overall loudness. The Audacity RMS goal is actually slight...

Select the whole track > Analyze > ACX Check. Either post the picture—or—the three numbers (without the comments).

Unexpected Bass and Treble Action

I'm not sure I can explain this one. When I reduce the Bass in Effect > Bass and Treble , the bass tones do go down, but both the RMS and waveform peaks go up . I don't have any automatic tools selected. BassAndTreble.png One of the poster/producers is having odd experiences with the Bass and Treble...

Re: Import MIDI file and export as MP3

MIDI has another problem other than the obvious translation problems. A typical MIDI instruction is [play: Honky Tonk-Piano MIDI#4]. The actual piano sound you get is burned into the player , not the MIDI instructions. If you have three different MIDI players, you can get three different pianos. My ...

Re: Import MIDI file and export as MP3

MIDI isn't sound. MIDI is machine control. Audacity only has very limited ability to deal with MIDI and I don't think translating to other formats is one of the tools. Sometimes you can configure your computer to play the MIDI with its own internal MIDI player and then configure Audacity to record s...

Re: Noise reduction in sections of a track

If I did it right, it shouldn't make any difference the volume you start with. It's self-correcting. If it's too far off, you'll just get perfect volume trash. OK. I rolled up the other sleeve: Select the whole show. Effect > Filter Curve : Low Rolloff for Speech > OK. Low Rolloff.png Effect > Ampli...
