Re: New member looking for direction and advice

can step in the door and start my journey. The reading thing isn't the goal...unless it is. Are you going to get good at voice work and then go do something else? I ask that because what usually happens is someone buys a microphone promising to make them a star, badly reads an entire book and then ...

Re: New member looking for direction and advice

die hard fan of audio books Who is your favorite reader and how many of their books do you have? Do you check them out of the library and listen to them while running on the beach? My favorite voiceover guy is Don LaFontaine. He got so identified with the coming attractions voice-overs that Geico I...

Re: The Notch filter don't want to work !

Describe the glitch. As a fuzzy rule, notch filter doesn't do anything useful with ticks, pops, or other very short time duration disturbances. The tool needs time. Motor whine, computer fan, kettle whistle, etc. My silly metaphor is telling somebody to identify all picket fences whose pickets (boar...

Re: What’s Causing this Odd Clipping?

The stereo pathway doesn't go through the half and double business, so technically, that's the best way. Still, that's only 6dB out of some 96dB of loudness range, so nobody is going to stop breathing either way. In all cases, you should pay attention to the Volume and Overload indicators on your de...

Re: Why does audacity convert 16 & 24bit files to 32bit float?

editing in 32bit is preferable because rounding errors are more precice. I think you're being a little too "gentle tinkering around the edges" about this. 32-floating doesn't overload. If you apply an effect, filter, process, or correction that causes the timeline waves to exceed 100%, that's the e...

Re: Stops Recording After 6 or 12 Minutes

There can be a couple of clues there. We know that Skype, Zoom, Meetings, Teams and etc. take over management of the computer sound services when they run. It's not optional. That's how they maintain bulletproof conversations and meetings over billions of different computers. We know that Audacity d...

Re: Opinion, please?

Changing the rate to 48000 all around did the trick. I will also use the H2 not only for recording books and podcasts... Congrats on getting the H2 to work. Note that AudioBook submissions (at least to ACX/Audible) need to be at 44100, not 48000. It's not that hard to convert in Audacity before sub...

Re: Volume

Select the file > Analyze > Contrast > Measure either Foreground or Background. That won't give you average, that will give you RMS (Root Mean Square) which is a really close cousin. The audiobook people use RMS for loudness.

If that won't do it, can you share why you want that?

Re: recorded audio breaking up

Right about there we ask if you're the only expected user on your machine. When was the last time you executed the thorough virus scan that takes all night? Not the quickie one that runs in the background. Do you leave any internet intensive activities or apps running while you work? Games? Do you u...
