I have the same problem on Ubuntu 8.08, Audacity 1.3.4-beta. Any GUI program I know closes the window when the "x" button of the last open window is clicked. Here the preferences item is called "Any Close/Exit command completely quits Audacity". That's not what I want. I want Audacity to make a diff...
