I haven't purchased a new mic yet, but I feel that you are correct. The mic that I have attempted to use is about 20 years old.

I was recording at church, when at the end of the sermon, instead of stopping the recording I unplugged the mic input. I immediately plugged the mic back in and tried to save the file. I could not do anything, everything was grayed out. I looked in the data file, and the files were there so I closed...

After reviewing 'microphone boost' I found that I could increase the db from 0 to 20 to 40. It was set from the factory at 20db. After increasing to 40db, the hissing during playback was terrible. Thanks for the input.

Volume very low when recording over microphone
After reading all the forums I can find, I still can not increase the recording volume. When playing back I have to turn the volume up all the way but I still can hardly hear. I am using Audacity 1.2.6 with RealTek High Def. audio sound driver and Vista OS. I have searched for driver updates, insure...
