Re: Mic Input Woes

:D Problem solved! Thanks steve, that was just what I needed - once the noise supression option was unchecked, Audacity is back to normal. Here's a SS just to help anyone on Vista who has the same odd behaviour: http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u359/Suzyque_photos/Ss.jpg Thanks again, rea...

Re: Mic Input Woes

I don't have a separate sound control icon either in the system tray or on the control panel. Those noise compressing settings do sound like a possible solution, but I don't know where to find them. I understand you can't know every single sound system/card; but if you do have any ideas about a Real...

Re: Mic Input Woes

Thanks for the tip off Steve, I've looked through the microphone properties yet it seems to be set to give programs exclusive control of the microphone settings; Audacity still doesn't want to play ball. My sound drivers are up to date, and I'm a bit stumped for what else to check. If there are any ...

Mic Input Woes

Hi all, I've installed Audacity 1.3.7 on a brand new Samsung R560, running 32bit Windows Vista Home Premium. I'm not very familiar with Vista, so I apologise if this is a OS related problem  - it's just I've spotted it whilst using Audacity. I'm importing mp3s and recording through a Sennheise...

Re: Differing Recording Quality

Thanks Steve & Co.! Since following your hints on closing all other software before using Audacity, the recording quality has been up to standard. Only the occasional restart has been needed, guessing it's something to do with a web plug-in as I have quite a few attached to Mozilla Firefox. Great fa...

Re: Differing Recording Quality

I don't use that plug-in, so nothing to remove there. Thanks anyway =) After a complete restart Audacity works well, you're right =) It's just really annoying having to restart before recording into Audacity. Is there any information I can get on what software might interfere with Audacity or my rec...

Differing Recording Quality

I record songs using my own mp3 backing tracks, which I import into Audacity easily. I use a Sennheiser headset to record into Audacity, and occasionally, a 'Pro-sound' hand-held microphone, which requires a preamp. I'm on Windows XP professional, running other audio software well such as TeamSpeak ...

Re: Muffled recording

I've upgraded to 1.3.5 - that was just a few days ago - but neither of the problems have been fixed completely. The delay however, is slightly better than before. But since the sound quality is so poor, and I have noticed after clicking stop after recording the track actually adjusts on the screen -...

Re: Muffled recording

That option was not selected anyway =/
Hmm, I've even asked a friend of mine who's studying sound technology and he couldn't even fix it!

Any other ideas? I'm grateful for all your suggestions :D

Re: Muffled recording

I'm not too worried about the latency - thats easily fixed manually. Any ideas on the sound quality? - The actual recording itself (I don't have this same problem with imported audio) is very muffled and the sound quality is awful. Thinking this must be a hardware problem, I bought I new microphone...
