I'm looking for keys that will let me move up and down through tracks while preserving the same timecode. Any ideas?
also, pasting into a track without everything getting scooted right.

Could the high note be clipping to produce distortion from high volume? (the waveform is going higher than 1.0 on the track) If that's the case, try lowering your mic volume, backing away from the mic, or both. ummm, otherwise it might be your mic/room, maybe? I haven't yet encountered this problem,...

Search the Help Contents in Audacity for "Envelope Editing."
Just make sure to place your first and last marks at 1.0 to keep the rest of your track at the orig. volume.

By save, do you mean export? I think muting all tracks but the ones you want and then exporting the file would do the trick...
