does changing the volume on youtube affect the recording volume on audacity?

I loaded 1.2 and that went well, then I tried to play a song (about 10 minutes long) on audacity, but it played the song in about 1.5 seconds, just a high-pitched garble. I have looked in the help stuff and on-line, but I cannot figure out how to slow down the playback. I cannot even find the topic ...
